This quote means that if you have good values and do good stuff to others or for others, then that means that you are a great person because not a lot of people are good with anyone. And for example, if you have good value  with someone and they are in trouble of something that they didn't even cause the problem and then there another person that is accusing that person that i care about, then that makes me decide wit to follow, whether my feelings of a good friend towards the person i care about, or the values because i wouldn't know which person is correct, i would  choose my feelings because i would know a person really well before becoming friends and which i would care for that person a lot. And if someone doesn't have value and doesn't do good things for you or even try to help you, then that means that you shouldn't even try to be friends with that person because they might do bad thing and then blame them on you so they can escape their trouble and you're left with the trouble they cause in the first place.
